PhotoArt – August 2013

The album page numbers change the page of photos for all the galleries, so its a little bit tricky to navigate. Some albums don’t have a page 2 or 3 or 4, so just keep an eye on which page you’re on as you browse. To click through the albums with several pages, you have to close the photo window (once at the end of the photoset), change the page number, then scroll back down to the album you were visiting.

Most of the photographs are Alicia’s originals, without photoshop or cropping.

Portraits of Steve, my dad, August 1st 2013.

We were relaxing at the park when the rain finally came in, so we took cover in this gazebo. My dad starting climbing around, and I realized I could get some really great shots.

6’4″ …and at this climbed height even grander!

A drive on the Lakshore in Lachine, August 6th 2013.

I had nice day in the park in Lachine with my sister. After we went for a drive east on the Lakeshore in Lachine and Lasalle, and there are some spectacular places. Along the way we stopped to take pictures of this capsized sailboat, and found a few other treasures while we were there.

A new painting and two new marker drawings, August 7th 2013.

I’ve been very active with my camera this summer, but I also made some beautiful pieces in vivid colors with nature and love’s inspiration.

I was inspired to make a mandala for Shawn, with a beautiful natural object setting I had found at the park, with pink mother of pearl like my wishing shell. It’s the jewel for this drawing, in the jewel chakra mandala love series.

After I also made a love mandala for Jesse. I drew citrine jewels on the beach, like my photo art. The seagull is from my photo art too. This drawing is Jesse, or Jean as I call him, for his song on the rocky shore in nature. His singing was like the seabird on show, because he was showboating his singing and love in a strong performance for me, by the water.

I finally got some paper to continue my paper painting series and made my first painting since this winter. It represent Tantric Love, with flames, blue waves, the color pink like rose quartz, lines like people spooning, surrounded by magenta love energy, with shapes like my bed and lanterns, and an organic abstract flower from my duvet Its a sublime piece that brings joyful love energy just from looking at it.

My tailored blue leopard dress, August 9th 2013.

I love this dress, since it has two of my favorite things: the color blue and leopard print. Not to mention that its strapless, frilly, and has a black leather sash with silver bling beads. The flowy skirt is glam too, the way that it hangs longer in the back. But it needed a finishing touch: I had the dress tailored with a piece of black chiffon that has embroidered stars and silver gems. It pulls up the belt, and with this little touch, the dress is perfect. Perfect for a round of tribal panther dancing in the park! I match the big cats, wild and free, and the dangly belt will lure them and make them dance like a cat playing with a cat toy on a string!

New Paper Painting, August 13th 2013.

Dragonfly-Hummingbird Emergence, acrylic on paper, 14 x 17 inches, 2013

My father saw my photographs of blue dragonfly and wanted me to paint it for him. I decided on the picture with the pool of water and the hummingbird in the reflection. I wanted the picture to weave out into colors. I chose a specific palette. The whirlpool in the water is like in the story of swan, and the dragonfly is about transformation and illusion, and the hummingbird is about the colors and joys of love, and the return of nature. These stories, and my own story of blossoming love’s transformation into hummingbird’s apollonesque aesthetic form, are in this painting. When my dad gets home from France and seeing the impressionists, this piece will be framed and waiting for him, as his daughter’s rebellious but triumphant return to painting.

New painting on canvas, August 21st-22nd 2013

Painting in progress, at my working spot in the studio

I came and sat down, it was early morning, with my carton of juice, and started talking to my cats. “Maman fait les couleurs aujourd’hui.” The cats love when ‘mom makes the colors’, and are art connoisseurs, always staring at all the art mom made that’s on the walls. So then Fils started happily nuzzling the juice carton I had brought over, rubbing it and knocking it over, in a good mood. “Are you painting blue water and waves, with red flowers, like this blue juice carton with red berries?” he asked. “Like that painting hanging there? It looks like those waves.” “Non Fils, its not waves of water, its waves of sand – thats like cat litter” I said. Then Jacqueline came up and started sniffing the juicebox in the garbage, with little stick stems on the fruit. As she nibbled the little stick straw she said: “No, mommy is painting a stick-bibitte like the other painting she just finished; I’ve been looking at it sitting on the kitchen table”. I said, “No Jacqueline, mommy is not painting a dragonfly this time.” “You guys will see later.” Now they get to see what mommy is gonna paint today, quand elle fait les couleurs.

Veiled Bride at Stewart Hall, August 24th 2013.

The willow at Stewart has a strange branch that reaches out further than the others. I was trying to figure out what the tree wanted. Is it a hand? Is it the olive branch? The branch is like a long head of hair, at the right height for someone to stand in. Stewart is always crawling with the brides who come down from their receptions for pictures in the park, so I decided the tree must want to make a veil for a bride. I stepped in and took some selfie shots, which wasn’t easy, because connecting with a tree spirit is intense!

Tree-climbers at Stewart, August 27th 2013.

The park was the Amazon rainforest today as I found monkey-imps climbing in the canopy.
